Accurx AI Scribe

At Putnoe Medical Centre, we are always looking for ways to improve the care and time we can offer you. That is why we have introduced Accurx Scribe, an AI-assisted tool that helps our clinicians spend less time on administration and more time focused on you during your appointment.

What is Accurx Scribe?

Accurx Scribe is an ambient voice software tool that listens to and transcribes the conversation between you and your clinician during a consultation. It then uses AI to summarise that conversation and generate clinical notes and documents, such as referral or patient letters, which your clinician reviews and approves before anything is saved to your record.

The tool is only ever activated manually by your clinician at the start of your appointment. It does not run in the background or record anything outside of your consultation.

What happens during your appointment?

When Accurx Scribe is in use, you will usually be made aware at the start of your consultation. During the appointment, the tool will:

  • Listen to the conversation between you and your clinician
  • Transcribe that conversation in real time
  • Summarise the transcription into a structured format
  • Generate clinical notes, and where relevant, referral or patient letters
  • Save a summary of your consultation to your medical record, just as your clinician would normally do

This means your clinician can give you their full attention, rather than dividing their focus between listening to you and typing notes.

Your privacy is protected

We take the privacy and security of your personal information very seriously. Here is what you need to know:

  • Audio is never stored. The audio of your consultation is processed in real time and automatically deleted as soon as it has been transcribed. Neither you nor your clinician can access a recording of the appointment.
  • Transcriptions and notes are securely held for 30 days, stored in data centres within the European Economic Area, in line with UK-GDPR. Only your clinical team can access this information. After 30 days, it is permanently deleted.
  • Your data is never sold or used to train AI. Accurx does not use patient data to develop or improve AI models.
  • Data is minimised. Personal identifiers are removed where possible during processing.
  • Accurx is GDPR and NHS compliant, and data is handled using ISO27001-certified infrastructure.

Accurx Scribe is integrated with Accurx’s privacy and security by design programme, in line with NHS Governance, Data Security and Clinical Safety Standards.

Your choice matters

You do not have to agree to Accurx Scribe being used during your appointment. If you would prefer your clinician not to use the AI Scribe tool, simply let them know before or during your consultation, there is no need to explain your reasons, and your care will not be affected in any way.

Who is in control?

Your clinician is always in full control. Accurx Scribe only assists with note-taking, every summary, clinical note, and document it generates is reviewed and approved by your clinician before it is saved to your record. Nothing is added to your medical notes automatically without clinical oversight.

Frequently asked questions

Is Accurx Scribe listening to everything I say? Accurx Scribe only listens during the period your clinician has actively started it for your consultation. It is not always on. No audio files are stored at any point.

Who can access my medical data? Only your clinical team at Putnoe Medical Centre can access your consultation notes and documents. Strict controls are in place to ensure sensitive information remains confidential.

Where is my data stored? Transcriptions and generated documents are temporarily stored in data centres within the European Economic Area for up to 30 days, in line with UK-GDPR. They are then permanently deleted.

Is my data used to train AI? No. Your data remains yours. Accurx does not sell data or use it to train any AI models.

Can I access a recording of my consultation? No audio recording is kept. The audio is transcribed in real time and immediately deleted. After your consultation, your clinician can share a summary of the notes with you through Accurx or your usual patient record access.

What if I have concerns or questions? If you have any questions about how your data is used, or would like to speak to someone about your rights, please contact us.
